About Post Adoption Services

What are Post Adoption Services?

  • · Post adoption services support adoptees in forming their identities and becoming healthy members of society.
  • · Post adoption services support adopted persons in settling into adoptive families and further satisfying adoptee's needs:
    Post adoption services pursue continuing programs that assist an adopted individual and strengthen his/her social relationship in general.

Who are post adoption services available for?

  • · Overseas and Domestic adoptees, adoptive families

Legal Basis for Post Adoption Services

Article 25 (1) (Provision of Post Adoption Services) of the special adoption act
  • · Observing the state of mutual adaptation between the adoptive parents and adopted child and services necessary for the adaptation
  • · Providing information necessary for rearing children in the adoptive family
Article 5 (Provision of Post Adoption Services) of the Enforcement Decree of the special adoption act

The “Birth country visits and other programs prescribed by Presidential Decree” as provided in Article 25 (3) shall refer to the following:

  • · Birth country visits
  • · Korean language training
  • · Information on the birth country
  • · Other post adoption services which the Minister of Health and Welfare deems necessary for children adopted overseas

Workflow of Post Adoption Services

  • 1.Funding for Post Adoption Services by the Ministry of Health and Welfare
  • 2. Promotion of Post Adoption Services by the Korea Adoption Services
  • 3. Public Invitaion for Post Adoption Programs
    • · Announcement of post adoption program grants
    • · Acceptance of applications from private organizations and adoption agencies
  • 4. Evaluation
    • · Estabishment of the evaluation committee and evaluation of the entries
  • 5. Approval
    • · Selection of the adoption programs appropriate in accordance with evaluation standards
    • · Notivication of evaluation results and submission of request for administartive documents to the selected agencies or organizations
  • 6. Execution
    • · Granting of operation expences to the selected agencies or organizations
  • 7. Implementation of Post Adoption Programs
    • · Each agency or organization carries out post adoption programs accordint th their plan
  • 8. Interim Assessment
    • · The Ministry of Health and Welfare and Korea Adoption Services examine post adoption programs performed by each agency or organization
    • · Conductind on-site inspections and an interim assessment
  • 9. Finalization and Assessment of Post Adoption Programs
    • · Preparation of reports on assessment results and performances upon conculsion of post adoption programs
    • · Review of outcomes of the conducted programs
